Transcription: The Jews who remained in Germany found themselves in an impossible existential situation. Most had no jobs. Early on in 1939, they were ordered to relinquish all valuables. The proceeds from the forced sale of their property were deposited in blocked accounts from which the Jews were given minuscule monthly allotments. When the war broke out, Approximately 200,000 isolated and defenseless Jews still lived in Germany. Many were elderly, including a large number of widows who had remained in Germany with no place else to go.
